• This training course will enable you to refine your knowledge of the Vaud vineyards and their market players.
• You will perfect your tasting skills and learn to recognise the specific characteristics of Vaud grape varieties.
• You will deepen your understanding of winemaking and learn how to integrate this knowledge into your daily sales activities.
• You will round out your professional skills in wine service techniques and storage conditions.
• You will specifically address the essential concepts of food and wine pairings so that you can share this knowledge with your customers.
• You will practise promoting Vaud wines and learn how to present them to your customers in the best possible way.
• You will familiarise yourself with various innovative serving techniques that preserve the quality of opened wines.
• You will discuss with your colleagues potential ways of increasing margins in your establishment.

Programme

This training course, valued at CHF 450, is offered free of charge by the Canton of Vaud, the Vaud Foundation for Training in the Food Industry, CHANGINS, the Vaud Wine Office and GastroVaud. The training takes place over two days at the CHANGINS School of Viticulture and Oenology, Route de Duillier 50, 1260 Nyon. Some modules are taught at the GastroVaud premises, Avenue Général-Guisan 42, 1009 Pully.

Day 1: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

• Geography of the Vaud vineyards and market players
• Introduction to wine tasting
• Basics of winemaking
• Grape varieties

Day 2: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

• Wine storage and service
• Food and wine pairing
• How to better promote Vaud wines (marketing and margins)

Awards

• Certificate of completion
• Membership of the Vaud Wine Academy
• The best candidates may be eligible for the Federal Sommelier Certificate, subject to meeting the admission requirements.
